For Digital Sublimation Printing: Which Fabric is Suitable?
Category : Blog
Digital sublimation printing often referred to sublimation printing too, which is a modern way of printing artworks onto special garments to make them look attractive or pass a particular message. However, do you know what fabrics can you print ?
The answer is you do need at least 60% polyester fabric to make sublimation. It is better to use 100% polyester. The reason is you will attain a superior print if 100% of the fabric accepts the dye when it enters gas form and is inducted into the open polymer pores.
Do you know why polyester fabric is the best product for dye sublimation? Because in one part of the process, the temperature of large format heat press machine must be in excess of 370º F (190ºC) to cause the dye to be converted into a gaseous form, and also to cause the polymer’s cells to open as they expand to accept the now gaseous dye into the cells. And without the cellular construction of the polyester fabric and it’s polymeric qualities, it would not be possible to print using digital sublimation printing. So, the more polymers, the better.
As we all known, there are two types of sublimation paper for printing, fast dry sublimation transfer and sticky dye sublimation paper. Fast dry sublimation paper can be applied to polyester, nylon, and other fabrics, Sticky paper can be used for Lycra, spandex and other elastic fabrics.
Note: Sublimation Printing can not be used for 100% cotton fabric. Because cotton fabric can not withstand high temperatures, but you can use T-shirt transfer paper. 🙂
